A lovely wine, pale in color and delicate as silk. It’s dry and crisp in acids, with a wonderful array of red cherry, cola, candied ginger, rosehip tea, vanilla, spice and smoky oak flavors. Feels light as a feather on the palate, yet lingers long and rich on the finish.

I love the silkiness and delicacy that defines this Pinot’s mouthfeel. Also nice is the dryness. Taste-wise, it could use more concentration, as the rhubarbs, pomegranates and cola are a little thin and weedy.

Some Pinots can handle high alcohol. This one feels hot and sweet, not in sugar but in alcohol and glycerine. It merits this score because the tart-like cherry, cocoapuff and cinnamon flavors taste good, but it really needs greater balance.

Not much going on with this Pinot. Smells thin, tastes thin, with tart acidity that’s accentuated by the lack of generosity. Has just enough cherry-cola fruit to score at the bottom of our “good” scale.

Too much acidity in this dry, fruity Pinot. Pale in color, it shows silky tannins and nice cherry, cola and spicy oak flavors, but that minty sharpness is awkward.

This is a very rich Pinot whose primary virtue is fruit. It just explodes with delicious cherry jam, red currant, licorice and mocha flavors. Dry and crisply acidic, it’s a beautiful wine for early drinking.

The valley is in a remote, warm part of Napa County. The wine is quite good. Rich and softly opulent, it offers waves of red cherry, raspberry, chocolate, orange tea, anise and Asian spice flavors that go on and on. Not an ager, but delicious now and through 2011 or so.

Extraordinarily rich and ripe, just explodes with cherry jam, crushed black raspberries and sweet toasted oak and vanilla flavors. But it’s not a simple fruit bomb. Crisp acidity and a deep, fine tannin structure give it complexity and limited ageability. Good now and through 2012.

Okay Pinot Noir, silky and clean, but the problem is it’s so fruity, so vibrant in luscious cherries, root beer and oak, that there’s hardly anything else going on. It’s all direct deliciousness.
