Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Piercing in the nose, with wood spice and herbal notes. The raspberry flavor is rather high toned, while the finish is a touch acidic and short, with overt oak that isn’t fully integrated. The final impression is a touch hot and tart.

Offers drying, tealike tannins from palate through to finish, plus red fruit, earth and oak flavors. Pretty standard stuff, but that’s not a bad thing. Fruit from this wine come from Heathfield Vineyard, near the Bool Lagoon. - D.M.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich aromas of blackberries, licorice and toasted oak start it off, followed by cherry and plum flavors. This particular wine lacks that thick, oozing style common to Australian Shiraz; instead, it’s fairly racy and agile, with lively acidity. As a result, it’s probably best with food. —M.S.

The nose is oaky and a bit weedy—we’ll call it minty to be nice. Raspberry and red currant comprise the flavors. While it’s clean, it is not terribly impressive. The quick take is that it’s zippy and nice. But further evaluation reveals some veggie notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fans of toast, butterscotch and butter will gulp this down happily, but these reviewers are sad to see the wine’s fruit get lost beneath it all. Finishes like caramel candy; smells like buttered whole wheat toast. Will certainly have its appeal, but we’d like to see the fruit center stage next vintage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The aromas, despite some chocolate qualities, are mostly sharp and woody, with just a hint of cola. Snappy red fruit controls the palate, followed by bright acidity on the finish. This has a racy quality but not a lot of fruit or depth backing that up. —M.S.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little damp-smelling, with mushroom, mint and chocolate aromas, but not much fruit. It takes an extremely long time to open up, and even then the tail end of the palate—both flavor and feel—is sharp. The fruit falls into the cranberry-and-cherry range.
