A dry wine, with a touch of greeness to it. The dryness is softened a little by some black fruit. —R.V.

Garrafeira means a wine designed for cellaring. From this small 50-acre vineyard in Arraiolos in the the Alentejo, this powerful concentrated wine is a blend of Caberenet Sauvignon and Aragonês. Almost black in color., this is a hugely rich, almost impenetrable wine, with dark, tarry fruit and big solid tannins. With its dryness it is quite old fashioned, but the richness that comes from the fruit more than balances. —R.V.

A dark, tarry, tannic wine with old-style fruit, with rich black fruit flavors underneath it all. The huge, dry tannins make this a wine that will need at least 5 years of cellaring. —R.V.
