Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ripe berries and spice aromas entice, and the palate continues to please with more raspberry and black pepper. The wine could use more dimension but the lively flavors and substantial finish add weight.

This deep garnet, kosher red blend from Israel has an exuberant, slightly hot nose of cherry and chocolate and follows with a medium-bodied mixture of blackberry, cherry and cocoa. The finish is lingering with a touch of sweetness. Overall a classy wine, though for this price, perhaps a little basic.

Produced from grapes grown in the Northern Negev/Southern Hebron Hills at Kibbutz Kramim, this rounded kosher Syrah is well-integrated with bright berry and pepper flavors and a lingering finish. Good structure and tannins mean it will age well and can hold its own against bolder dishes.

Color is already fading toward the rim, and the wine smells of roasted yet unripe fruit, blending rhubarb and cut grass with molasses and prunes. Soft and lacking structure in the mouth. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.

To my palate, the luxury cuvées from this winery aren’t quite as successful as some of the other wines, bearing a prematurely aged character of slight oxidation and dried fruit. This one folds in earth and leather flavors before thinning out a bit on the finish. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.

Easy to drink, if somewhat herbal and light in body. Cedar and vanilla notes accent cherry-rhubarb aromas and flavors, picking up additional complexity in the form of cinnamon and mint. Tart and juicy on the finish. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.

Has some almost slightly oxidized character to it, with hints of almonds on the nose alongside superripe, chocolaty fruit. Picks up pruny notes on the palate, then dried cherries and some drying tannins on the finish. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.

Intense aromas of cassis and dark cherry are layered with accents of menthol, tea and black currant leaf. The texture is medium-full and velvety with fine, fleeting tannins. The wine closes nicely with an enduring and evolving finish. A perfect companion for braised brisket.

Has some hints of green bean, but also decent cassis and chocolate flavors. There’s a hint of tomato leaf as well. Velvety in the mouth, with a long, layered finish. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pricey, but one of the better efforts to come out of Israel, successfully marrying plum fruit with vanilla and toasted coconut and some fine pipe tobacco notes. Medium-bodied, turning a bit chewy on the finish, but the fruit wins out in the end. Best over the next few years. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company.
