Young and tart in cool-climate acidity, this Pinot needs time in the cellar. It’s an exotic wine, spicy and peppery, almost briary, like a Zinfandel, except with flavors of wild forest raspberries, cherries, orange zest and a hint of pine cone. It’s as cellarable a Pinot Noir as exists in California. Best after 2015.

Not as pricey as the winery’s San Andreas bottling, but in the same style. Light-bodied, elegant, dry and modest in alcohol, yet with great focus and intensity. A lovely wine that’s a relative bargain.

This big, opulent and generous wine is one of the few Heiligenstein wines made of Grüner Veltliner. Its peppery character is tempered with fresh acidity and mineral flavors.

Spring blossom aromas and flavors of peach, white currants and lychees are all in this finely balanced, delicate wine. The aftertaste is crisp and intense.

With maturity beckoning, this wine already emphasizes its petrol, its herbal fruit character. The aromas of white flowers are there, but the acidity is less fruit, more texture, surrounding toast and lime jelly flavors. Screwcap.

Super-rich, this is an atypical wine, spice rather than fruit dominating. So enjoy the cinnamon, vanilla and cream flavors—the acidity is a minor element. The finish has exotic, spice-laden character. Screwcap.

Like many naturally delicate wines in 2003, this has become fat, showing opulence rather than elegance. It has flavors of almonds as well as vanilla and toast to round it out.

A superbly ripe wine, with its acidity given a rich boost by yellow fruits, the spice a layer of fruit cake richness. It has power, some minerality and a great waft of orange to finish. Should age well over 4–5 years. Screwcap.

The Heiligenstein vineyard is better known for its Rieslings, but it obviously is capable of producing impressive Grüner Veltliners. The pure, mineral character is very obvious and delicious, and cuts through the more delicate green fruits, intensely fresh acidity and green citrus kick. Ageworthy. Screwcap.
