Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Given its pronounced copper tinge, this wine likely sees some skin contact. The result is an almost berry-like aroma, along with more typical apple and almond notes. It’s also big, weighty and slightly sweet, making a powerful flavor statement. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

At 13% alcohol, this dry-styled Riesling comes across as a bit chunky and lacking elegance. That said, it does offer plenty of poached apple, honey and spice aromas and flavors and a lingering finish.

A great value from this old winery, founded more than 50 years ago. Ample aromas of green apple, ripe peach, butter and smoke, with fig and melon. Lively acidity dominates the fresh, young, green-apple and peach flavors. Complex and interesting, hard to put down. Best Buy.

A solid effort, but given the resources of the parent company, there’s no reason why this couldn’t be better. Passion fruit and grapefruit aromas lead off, followed by modest peach and melon flavors that finish sternly citric and somewhat green. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wine that evoked no consensus among our tasters. Is more less or is it more? The nose is rich and packed full of asparagus, canned pea and pickled bell pepper, and the palate is thick and syrupy. One reviewer called it “good within the paradigm;” another found it mushy and lacking in balance. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Opens with buttery, citrus and smoky aromas. Rich and creamy, with great texture: steely, crisp and bold. Washes the palate with waves of citrus and spice flavors. Clean as a whistle, and what a bargain. Best Buy.

Hay, grass and intoxicating garden-vegetable notes waft from the nose. It almost has the apple-citrus texture and flavor of a sparkling wine; Afterward, though, it tastes green and granite-y, like licking cilantro off a mortar and pestle. It's a little thin, and finishes long with minerals, fresh herb and a bit too bright of a citrus-acid note.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A new addition to the Icon line from Nobilo and one that still needs a little work. It’s good, with lifted floral and lime aromas, but seems overwhelmingly citrusy on the palate, with tangy notes that turn slightly pith-like on the finish. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Produced off dry, bony sites in the Wairau, resulting in a ripe wine that retains the sweaty, passion fruit and gooseberry flavors that make Marlborough Sauvignon so unique, while adding layers of peach and pink grapefruit. Round in the mouth and easy to drink. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Fresh and light; the grapefruit and gooseberry aromas and flavors are tinged with capsicum and green peas. The residual sugar is noticeable, at 6–7 g/L, but balanced by brisk acidity.
