Incredibly dark in color but light on its feet, this wine somehow manages to hide its 15.5% alcohol under fruit that’s neither overblown or jammy. Spice- and herb-driven complexity is the order of the day, with scents of violets lending an exotic note to the aromas. It's mouthfilling and palate-coating but wonderfully balanced, picking up hints of black olive and espresso on the lingering finish. Good now, but appears to have the stuff to evolve over at least 10–15 years.

Redolent of rose petals and black cherry in the nose, it fans out into a silky-smooth texture that supports elegant black currant, blackberry, plum, anise and spice flavors with just a hint of chocolate and herbs. A lengthy finish leaves a velvety impression on the palate. This is an auspicious debut made exclusively from the owner’s estate vineyard. Barrel samples from 2001 show it’s no flash in the pan. The next Napa cult Cab?

Amazing fruit and great structure. It was open for about an hour. It had a great earthiness to support the lush fruit. It has amazing structure and tremendous staying power.

Sweet and forward nose, but elegant and refined, perfumed and floral, lots of refined fruit, eucalyptus, interesting touch of copper; sweet and round in the mouth, peppery, hot and spicy but pleasant; well-balanced acidity and tannins; still very immature with a sour mash set of flavors at the end.
