A fascinating Chard, utterly un-Californian. Punches you in the nose with mineral, medicinal and herbal aromas. Earthy and intense. In the mouth, it’s superrich and creamy, with lemony-peach flavors and cinnamon dustiness. Highly acidic, rich and intense, it’s complex and vital, and should age.

Grassy and herbal on the nose, then shows more stone-fruit flavors on the palate. Turns dry and stony on the finish. Imported by Sauvage Selections.

A nice Pinot at a nice price, kicking off with lifted cherry fruit and a tinge of minty greenness. It’s medium in body, with delicate and supple tannins framing clean, fresh cherry flavors. Finishes soft, easy and with decent length and intensity, making it a pleasant quaff for spring and into summer.

Relatively light in color, but very nicely perfumed and floral on the nose. Flavors are a bit simpler, focusing on cherries and vanilla. This soft, easy-drinking wine would make a fine accompaniment to delicate salmon dishes. Imported by Sauvage Selections.

Starts with strong, nuanced aromas of spiced green apples, citrus, melon, and fig, and turns explosively fruity in the mouth, with tiers of ripe, spicy juniper berry and lime. Bone dry, it’s fruit is highlighted by high acidity. The finish is remarkably long, rich, and spicy.

Hunter's is an old New Zealand wine brand that should do better. That said, this is a solid Savvie, combining tropical fruit with fresh herbaceousness. A suggestion of sweetness on the midpalate is balanced by tart acids on the finish.

A great value in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Hunter’s 2007 marries ripe nectarine aromas and flavors with just enough acidity and a touch of grassiness to retain focus and varietal character. The lack of overt herbal notes makes it easy to pair with food, or drink on its own.

Smells zesty and piquant, with passion fruit and jalapeño scents wafting from the glass. Even better, the flavors back up this positive first impression, filling out this medium-weight wine with nuances of passion fruit and grapefruit. The finish is clean, tangy and refreshing.
