There is already some evidence of brick coloring around the edges of this wine, which opens with an aromatic mix of dark fruits, tobacco, leather and barnyard smells. It’s open and tangy, somewhat rustic, but distinctly Burgundian for all that, and fun to drink. —P.G.

Tart red fruit wears forest-floor and smoke accents on this light wine’s nose. Subdued cherry flavors, prominent saddle leather and earth accents mark the slightly chalky palate. Narrows on the tangy, almost lemon-oaky finish.

Plenty of toast and menthol aromas let you know this has seen new oak; it also masks some pretty black-cherry notes that you now have to ferret out. Finishes with some bitter, woody tannins and juicy cranberry fruit. A wine with promising raw materials that’s fighting to find itself.
