Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a big, modern wine that delivers thick oak renderings stacked tall against smaller offerings of black fruit. Aromas of leather, spice and vanilla are dominant, and the wine is characterized by firm tannins. Drink after 2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine nails that difficult spot between finesse and power. Cranberry and cherry, leather, tobacco, earth, herbs, rose petal and mineral or graphite add texture and complexity. A silky wine with a medium structure from a winery owned by AOL Time Warner chief executive Dick Parsons. Imported by DSI.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A gorgeous wine with amazing texture and integration. The nose and feel are so soft and silky, and the fruit is as expressive as Sangiovese gets. Plush and royal, with perfect tannic structure, smiling acidity and smoky shadings. A dream in the glass, with meters of depth. Imported by Domaine Select Wine Estates.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Excellent from the initial nosing through the polished palate and onto the hedonistic finish. This wine from the estate of Time Warner chairman Richard Parsons offers robust aromas of forest floor and black cherry, followed by a sleek, silky palate. Creamy and sweet on the finish, with chocolate and vanilla in spades. Imported by Domaine Select Wine Estates.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Il Palazzone’s 2004 Riserva exhibits nicely aged aromas of dried currants, spice, leather, tar, Indian spice, pressed violets and cassis. There’s excellent intensity and complexity here and the wine closes long with lingering layers of spice and smoke.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Il Palazzone opens with a lean, compact appearance and a bright ruby color. The bouquet delivers a steady aromatic lineup of cherries, wild berries, blue flowers and light shadings of spice. There’s more power and persistency here than you’d expect and Il Palazzone has succeeded in making a beautiful wine in a difficult vintage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Il Palazzone is a dynamic American-owned property in Montalcino that usually delivers a luscious and velvety style of Brunello. This wine delivers those attractive qualities in the mouth but the aromas make the wine seem older than it is. You’ll get tones of ripe berries, old leather and licorice. Drink now.
