Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Softer and lusher than the hard 2005, with flashy black cherry, red currant, bacon, sandalwood and spicy flavors. Mostly Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s also very new-oaky. Immature and unmeshed, it needs time to come around. Best after 2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit sharp in the mouth, with a cut of tartness that age is unlikely to soften. Otherwise, this blend of mostly Merlot, with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, is polished and dry, with blackberry and black currant flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows the tobaccoey herbaceousness and soft tannins of Alexander Valley, with polished cherry and red currant fruit brushed with smoky oak. This lovely, easy-drinking but complex wine should develop in the bottle over the next six years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very fine Cabernet Sauvignon, although it’s a textbook example of why you should cellar a wine even when it’s as tasty as this in youth. Shows classic flavors of blackberries, black currants, cocoa, herbs and spices, wrapped into dusty tannins and enriched with sweet, smoky oak. But it will only gain complexity and texture in the bottle. Better 2010 and beyond.
