Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a good approximation of more costly Napa reds. It’s rich in cherry, blackberry and mocha flavors, and dry, with a touch of smoky oak. There’s good value for the money. From Delicato.

Clean, brisk and balanced, with good varietal flavors of pineapples, limes, peaches and exotic tropical fruits, brightened with zesty acidity. This is a good price for a classic California Chardonnay.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very dry, crisp and elegantly structured, this Pinot Noir can be had at a pretty good price. It has modest flavors of cherries, tobacco and spices, but is a little unripe, with hints of green tomato and white pepper.

Pretty good for the price, with real upscale Napa character. Rich and dry in blackberry, blueberry and chocolate flavors, the wine has a polish and elegance that make it a good buy. Gets better as it airs, so decant for an hour or so.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A perfectly fine everyday Cabernet, with juicy fruit and berry flavors and a rich, smooth coating of tannins. It’s a little minty and green, but you won’t notice when you have it with ketchup and cheese on a burger.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a pretty good buy for a Merlot that shows lots of polish and sophistication. It has savory black cherry, currant, cola and spice flavors. The tannins are a little rugged and green, so it loses some points.

Just what many people like, an oaky, ripe, sweet Chardonnay, but purists will find it simple and pandering to public taste.

Not a terribly attractive Pinot. Starts with some vegetal smells, then turns thin, minty and sharp in the mouth, with modest cherry flavors.

Does a decent job of fulfilling Pinot’s basic obligation of silky fruitiness, despite some minty green flavors and sharpness in the finish. Drink now.

Here’s a dry, crisp and elegantly structured Pinot Noir. It’s rich and forward in jammy raspberries, cherries and cola, with a bite of acidity. Drink now.
