Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pungent and a touch sweaty and pickled, with lemon zest, citrus and celery notes from start to finish. The wine has fairly true flavors, but it also shows a touch of weightiness on the palate. Not a bad wine but it doesn’t show much character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Lurton brothers, who make wines from France to South America, have now started to produce two Douro wines, with the help, they say, of the Lavradores de Feitoria group of producers. This is the simpler of the two wines, dominated by spicy flavors, very soft and round, ready to drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The top wine of the pair produced by the Lurton brothers, this is a bomb of a wine, exploding fruit and superripe tannins in the mouth. It has the proper dry layer over this fruit, but it’s more about velvet and smoothness. It shows great structure, and could certainly age for five years.

A spicy herbal wine, with a touch of fennel and lemon, along with white fruits. Fresh and ripe but with a definite spicy wood element.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine makes up the bulk of the production at this fledgling winery in Lolol. It’s pungent and leathery, with a certain lean freshness that isn’t at all offensive but seems a bit raw. Shows a bit of the variety’s sauciness. Snappy and tight. Imported by Winesellers Ltd.

Lightweight and fresh, with spicy, minty aromas accenting deeper cherry and berry scents. Medium on the palate, with cherry, chocolate and peppery flavors. Finishes fresh, with a touch of tobacco and vanilla. Imported by Winesellers Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Round and ripe, with forward aromas and spice. Ripeness isn’t an issue with this Cabernet-Carmenère blend; it’s pretty jumpy and electric, with amplified red-berry flavors. From a warm, dry subregion of Colchagua. Imported by Winesellers Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Intensely oaked, with lemon peel and charcoal on the nose, which also features tar and crude oil. Below the surface there’s cherry, red plum and concentration. Powerful, with tannin and grabby acids. Not the smoothest wine but commendable for its power. Should improve in the future; this was only the second vintage. Imported by Winesellers Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A richly ripe wine, full of tarry, dark tannins and black fruits. Despite its weight and density, it is well balanced, the dark flavors opening out with flavors of licorice, bitter chocolate and spicy wood.

Made from old vine Touriga Franca, this is an elegant, perfumed wine. There are firm tannins, but the fruit is juicy, spicy, layered with blackberry jam, but also good balancing acidity. To finish, the wine spreads out in the mouth, leaving richness, but always that elegance.
