The name 17? It was the number of the tank where Jacky and Gilles Dumangin first made this blend. They made a lively, fresh cuvée definitely more Champagne than wine, with a soft, crisp palate. The flavors are of apricots, ripe pears, a wine that froths easily in the mouth.

In contrast to the 1990 vintage, this tastes old. But it has a sturdy structure and character that bring it closer to Champagne. It is certainly a wine for lovers of old Champagne, but as it opens in the glass all the disparate elements come together.

Pure, beautifully delicate wine, with mineral striations that line out the grapefruit and citrus flavors. It is certainly very crisp, with a light touch of toast just showing, finishing with a delicious burst of acidity.

A dry wine that takes its cue from the intense ageworthy acidity of the 1996 vintage. It brings in all the right pink grapefruit flavors and tight structure that promises several years bottle aging. Even the Dumangin tendency of having apparent high dosage is thankfully missing with this delicious wine.

In the twisted logic of Champagne, Extra-Dry is sweeter than Brut. This old vintage, released after 10 years, has been given an extra dosage. The result is a curious wine, honeyed, sweet, with a candied lemon-lime character.

Soft and rounded, this is a full style of rosé, pushing red berry fruits, ripe strawberries right to the front of the palate. That means it is soft, with a relatively high dosage, the acidity acting in a supporting role to give some shape.

A wine made by using the color from the grape skins rather than the more normal Champagne method of adding red wine to give color to rosé. It gives a deep pink color with a wine that is rich, complex, full of red cherry and raspberry flavors.

An attractively crisp wine that is already well developed. There is lemon drop sweetness in the dosage and ripe grapefruit flavors. The wine is balanced and fruity.

Very soft wine, all candy and sweet fruit. This brut sums up the Dumangin style well, which always seems to go for sweetness.

From a great year for vintage Champagne, this is a fine wine, bringing out minerality, green stone fruits and mouthwatering acidity. It is a wine for aging, so give this impressive Champagne 3–4 years.
