Hailing from an emerging region northeast of Napa Valley, this SB is heavily oaked, and thus features big batches of butter and toast. Yellow apples and cantaloupe flavors are barely detectable under the veneer of thick oak. It’s surely full-bodied, bordering on over the top. But it has positive qualities, including a rich and pleasant mouthfeel.

From the inland Redwood Valley, this is an easy-drinking wine. Flavors of apples and peaches are a little oaky, with adequate acids and a short, clean finish.

Darkly purple, this wine smells young, too. Blueberries, earth and tobacco aromas lead to dry flavors of boysenberries and other dark berries, and soft tannins. Light on the oak, it’s not a deeply layered wine, but it’s honestly made and likeable, and will come alive with food.

A very dark wine, inky purple, that stains the glass with glycerine, it opens with powerful aromas of black pepper. The pepper theme reprises on the palate, along with blackberries. The wine is very dry and feels thick and heavy, the result of low acids. Much work remains to be done, but this early result is promising.

A first-rate wine that appeals for its lush fruit and gentle balance. Despite underlying lemon and grass flavors, itÕs enriched with nuances of figs and peaches and a round, creamy, oaky texture. This likeable wine is also a good value.
