J-T makes three tiers of wines from Syrah grapes, all gold medal-worthy. This is a fine value; tight as a drum, dense and deep. The fruits are ripe and wrapped in thick, meaty layers of earth, soy and leaf, with hints of olive and black tea in the finish.

Absolutely luscious, rich, viscous and full-on, with apricot, peach, caramel crème brûlée flavors at the center. Good acidity leaves a freshness on the finish, with lengthy hints of honey and vanilla.

It’s no surprise that excellent icewine is being made in the Niagara region of Canada, but this Vidal offering from Jackson-Triggs is a pleasure nonetheless. With its layered aromas and flavors of orange, apricot and honey lifted by crisp acidity, this is both approachable and collectible. A serious wine with a fun and flirty side. From its inviting aromas of vanilla, dried herbs and black cherries to its lushly tannic finish, this wine strikes all the right notes. Supple and fleshy in the mouth, it lacks only the complexity and intensity to push it to the next level. Drink now–2010, although it might age even longer. Imported by Vincor USA.

The finished wine contains 25% residual sugar and 9% alcohol, with a rich bouquet. Golden, intense and densely packed with a rich mix of tropical fruit, pear and baked apple, it feels quite heavy on the palate but still lively, with the crisp definition for which these Canadian icewines are known. The finish lasts for several minutes.

Aromas of apricot, honey and vanilla give this dessert wine a luscious start. On the palate, balanced, creamy flavors of citrus, fruit and honey linger. Full but not cloying, the wine will pair well with creamy cheeses.

The 5 classic Bordeaux grape varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (7%), Malbec (10%) and Petit Verdot (3%) comprise this reserve Meritage from Okanagan Valley producer Jackson-Triggs. A bright, young nose of raspberry and coffee is followed by pleasant flavors of spicy pepper and berries, but the mouthfeel is dry and tannic, giving the wine a rough character. Aging will help but there’s still a lack of elegance here that might turn off lovers of balanced, softer wines. Imported by The Meritage Association.

Definitely has a personality all its own. Our panel all found aromas of baby food and applesauce, but nobody called it offputting. Quite sweet throughout, with flavors of honeydew, pear and ultraripe peach. A slick wine with no bite. Imported by Karl, Bright & Mariani.
