The Reserve wines from Jacob’s Creek continue to offer excellent value, and with 90,000 cases imported, this should be easy to find. No, it’s not the most intense and concentrated Shiraz, but this medium-bodied wine offers silky tannins, plenty of blackberry and blueberry fruit touched with dried spices and a supple finish. Drink now.

Aromas are of black cherry and bramble. Plum fruit is couched in sawdusty tannins. Tastes like a wine made in the winery, with added bells and whistles.

Shiraz from this well-tempered, pretty wine is from Barossa, and the Cab from Coonawarra. Aromas are crisp and racy—think black cherry and eucalyptus, plus some cinnamon or spice—and the same elements play out on the palate. Mouthfeel is dry and dusty, all the way through the medium-long finish.

A big, button-pushing concentrated wine, and so obviously Shiraz (75%, anyway) that you’d easily pick it out of a blind lineup. Caramel, butterscotch and black pepper highlights run all the way through. New World and yummy, but if over-the-top ain’t your thing, steer clear of it.

The bouquet is clean, offering a good mix of berries and oak. The palate drives forward with vital fruit and drying oak, while the finish is toasty, with vanilla coming on late. This wine is firm, balanced and tasty. At all check points it belies its value price.

Jacob’s Creek’s top-end red is complex, dense and supple. A seductive bouquet of cassis, Asian spice, leather, cocoa and smoke pulls you in and the palate delivers with a thick, velvety feel and concentrated black fruit. Dry, but ripe and even tannins on the long finish portend a good future for this already attractive wine. Cellar Selection.
