Good value for the pretty flavors of sour cherry, tomato and toasty oak, and the spicy finish. Feels clean and varietally correct, and turns sweet in oak and spice on the finish.

Country-style Super-Tuscan wine here, with berry and herb flavors wrapped in rough tannins, crisp acids and a bitter, peppery finish. For all that, it has a nice rusticity that will go well with hearty foods like pasta with tomato sauce. A Sangiovese-Cabernet Sauvignon blend, with a dash of Merlot.

Here’s the latest entry into the red-hot unoaked Chardonnay category in America, and it’s a solid hit. Dry and crisp, it’s rich in apricots, pineapples, tangerines and spices.

Inexpensive Viognier is tough to get right. The winemaker has kept this one dry and crisp, with polished pineapple, green apple and spice flavors. Very nice on its own, or as a versatile white.

A fine everyday wine. With its soft, velvety mouthfeel and luscious fruit, it’s a good buy. The blackberry, cassis, plum, coffee, tobacco, leather and cocoa flavors are a little thin, but they finish dry and clean, with a scour of tannins.

You’ll find stewed fruit flavors in this everyday wine, but it’s nicely dry, with smooth tannins and a rich, plummy finish.

Jammy, raspberry, black-cherry, smoke, earth and pepper aromas leap from the glass, and then it turns fruity in the mouth, with a supple texture. Dry, dusty tannins mask a dense core of dark berry fruit. This is good drinking and a very nice value.

A nice, dry Merlot that pleases for its ripe fruity flavors and soft tannins. It’s a solid value and will nicely complement meats and cheeses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of almost sweet blackberry and cherry fruit in this dryish wine. It’s a bit too soft in tannins and acids, and collapses on the finish, except for the intense fruit, which lingers.

With no wood, what you get are the pure fruit flavors of sweetly ripe peaches, pineapples and mangoes in this delightful wine, which has enough brisk acidity to balance. A very good value.
