Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
As before, this features fruit from Conner-Lee, here with some Lewis vineyard grapes added to bring in more minerality. The result is a well-crafted mix of grapes from these two premier vineyards, with a tight core of chalk-laden citrus fruits. Persistent and resonant, the fruit is edged with citrus skin and brings a pat of butter at the end.

Fragrant and dense, this is nonetheless immediately accessible, with bright berry flavors wrapped in strong mineral accents, finishing with licorice, steel, skin flavors, and sharp tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and smoky, this blend of fruit from Klipsun, Ciel du Cheval and Kiona includes 9% each Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Tight and herbal, infused with rock and iron, it is a compact and well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon that is not afraid to show a fair amount of stem and herb.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Purple-black, with rich scents of bright boysenberry fruit, and an unusual earthy umami note that adds depth to the finish. Sharp, young, acidic and grapy, this drinks like a younger wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This offers a distinctive take on Boushey fruit, with a lot of green tea in the tannins. The berry flavors take a back seat to the vineyard’s distinctive highlights of earth, cured meat, and Rhône-like bacon fat.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The winery’s signature red features Klipsun Cabernet blended with Merlot and Syrah sourced from a variety of top sites. Interesting cherry tobacco and chocolate streaks marry well to the ripe cherry fruit, and it’s got the extra length you look for in this price range. 325 cases produced.

This wine begins with lively, juicy, spicy blackberry and raspberry fruits, then adds pepper and vanilla to the mix. The tannins are soft and approachable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Crisp and pungent with ripe aromas and flavors of peach, apricot, pear and anise. Barrel fermented and aged sur lie for six months in 50% new French oak; it retains enough firm acid to keep it lively and balanced, and the fruit shines.

JM Cellars Sauvignon Blanc - 2003

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Klipsun, Ciel and Red Mountain vineyard grapes comprise this wine, which displays the tannic toughness of the appellation. The barrel flavors, particularly chocolate and coconut, are evident, but the fruit is hard and tight, a bit overwhelmed by the tannins. Just 90 cases produced.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the sixth vintage for this wine, and there is no question that Klipsun’s SB is something special. The clean, barrel-fermented effort is quite dry, clean and toasty. It’s been barrel aged sur lie in French oak (half new). Just 5% Semillon is added, but it gives the mouthfeel a touch of lanolin.
