Nice and sweet at first, with aromas of flowers and tropical fruit. Plump on the palate, without much noticeable acidity. The flavors, therefore, run toward banana, pear and ripe apple. Finishes creamy and soft; teetering on flaccid. Imported by Epic Wines.

Very oaky, with coconut and raw wood making up the bulk of the bouquet. Wood is the recurring theme throughout, with just a bit of dark fruit making an appearance. Very hard, tannic and tough.

Starts with coffee and burnt toast, and next comes deep blueberry, black plum and spice flavors. Begins racy on the palate and then mellows into cushy softness. Good in its depth of flavor, with chewy tannins.

Roasted and deep at first, which is encouraging. But it doesn’t really stand the test, showing tart plum and berry flavors, out-of-place tannin and shortness on the palate. Finishes too thin and hard.

A bit of burnt character clouds the grapy nose, but it’s not a heavy, overoaked wine. In fact, the palate is a touch tangy, with zesty black cherry and a decent amount of protruding acidity. Rigid but solid, with full fruit flavors. Imported by Epic Wines.

A weird wine with early sneaker-sole aromas that change to root beer and liqueur later on. The palate is soft, almost devoid of tannin, with sugary black fruit that seems either a touch cooked or a close cousin of recioto. Lacks the edge of a balanced wine. Imported by Epic Wines.

Heavily oaked and minty on the nose, but the problems really arise on the palate, where outsized acidity and not enough richness amount to too much tang and tartness. For a good-vintage Malbec, there's not nearly enough body and flavor here.
