Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The alcohol is listed at just 12.3%, with residual sugar under 1%, but noticeable. The overall balance is excellent, with a fruit-forward appeal built upon clean, crisp layers of citrus and stone fruits. What surprises is the persistence; the score reflects both the breadth and length of this wine.

Honeysuckle scents and ripe, fresh fruit flavors run from grapefruit on into tropical. This was fermented in Hungarian puncheons, picking up just a hint of toast along the way. Clean and quite delicious.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Just a hint of sweetness (residual sugar is under 1%) cuts through the biting acidity, creating a fine-tuned sense of balance and adding depth and body to the overall structure. Grapefruit, pear and nectarine flavors showcase the intense fruit character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From estate-grown fruit in Washington’s Wahluke Slope AVA, this simple, spicy Cabernet Sauvignon has the overpowering vanilla and tobacco flavors that seem to come with certain types of oak products. The fruit is very basic, tart and lightly tasting like cranberries.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Estate-grown, tart and tasting of citrus and green apple fruits. Despite the high acidity and generous (13.2%) alcohol, there is an impression of some sweetness. A simple, pleasant wine that will show best with spicy Pan-Asian cooking.

Jones of Washington Riesling - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a rather dilute, light, almost invisible wine from Jones. The fruit tastes watered down, with a slightly candied sweetness. Tannins are thin and the wine simply lacks concentration from start to finish. The best part of it is the nose, with some pretty, lightly fruity scents of raspberry and cherry.

Jones of Washington Syrah - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dusty-scented cherry fruit, hints of barn and earth, and a blend that includes 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose on this wine promises more than it delivers in the mouth, where it turns acidic and hard, with green tannins.

Jones of Washington Merlot - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From estate-grown fruit, this adds Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah to the Cab. The net result is a diffuse wine with no varietal character. Tannins are hard and bitter, and the fruit seems to be hiding.

Good fruit from the expansive estate vineyards is the story here. The wine is solid, straight-ahead, with plenty of citrus and melon and peach-powered flavor. Big and round and tasty, with a lick of toast in the back of the throat.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Well-crafted, and built upon solid, ripe, estate-grown fruit. Juicy stone fruits are lightly wrapped in buttery oak, filling the mouth and holding firm and balanced through a lingering and very pleasant finish.
