Thin and acidic, with just the barest suggestion of grapefruit juice. Maybe some pineapples. Earns an extra point or two for dryness and elegance, but really lacks richness.

Tastes a bit raw and herbal in the mouth, like a piece of celery, although there are also richer blackberry and cherry flavors. Yet it’s a dry, elegantly constructed Cabernet. Best soon, before the fruit disappears.

Lean, with pineapple, grapefruit and green-apple aromas. Orange-apple flavors dance on the palate, graced by slight herb notes. Bright and crisp on the finish. Lively, in a light style.

This is an easy-drinking Cab with pleasant black currant flavors and more than a hint of olives and other green, herbal notes that are a testament to the poor vintage. The tannins are soft, although acidity is sharp, and there’s a green tartness all the way through the finish.

Aromas of red berries, cherries, cedar and herbs open this reserved offering. Lean and a bit astringent on the palate now, it offers some berry, pepper and chocolate notes on the palate. It never really opens up, and even thins a bit at the end. Regrettably, it fails to impress in this company.

From a mixture of Sonoma and Mendocino grapes, and with 50,000 cases produced, this is an average wine. Fulfills the basic Cab requirements of blackberry fruit and a full body without achieving excitement.

Long one of America’s top restaurant Cabs, Jordan’s 2004 will admirably fulfill expectations. Ample cassis fruit is framed by soft tannins that promise immediate drinkability. Production was 60,000 cases.

Jordan’s first-ever Russian River Chard is very good. It has the ripe green apple and peach flavors you expect from the appellation, with its crisp, supporting acids. Oak plays an integral, but not a dominating, role. —S.H.

Jordan’s Chardonnay was made full-Burgundian style, barrel-fermented in nearly half new oak and aged on the lees. Partial malolactic fermentation has enabled brisk, appley acidity to remain. The flavors are of green apples and nectarines, with a mineral tug. This is an elegant, sophisticated Chardonnay.
