This rich, spicy Zinfandel defines the Dry Creek style. It’s fruit-forward in briary, brambly berry and currant flavors that have hints of anise and chocolate, and is dry, with sturdy tannins and a balancing cut of acidity. Very enticing. Only 150 cases were produced, but it’s worth a search.

Jewell threads the needle where so many others fail with this dry, elegant Sauvignon Blanc. Does exactly what it should, providing a mouthwateringly crisp white wine that scours and cleanses the palate. The flavors are of limes, lemons, grapefruits, wildflowers and stony, tangy minerals. Really a brilliant wine, among the best of its class.

Another fine Sauvignon Blanc from Joseph Jewell. It’s dry and crisp in acidity, offering classic Sauvignon flavors of citrus fruits, pears, lemongrass, minerals, spices, vanilla and toast, leading to a long, clean finish. A lovely cocktail wine, at a fair price.

An ambitious wine, showing good structure and uplifted fruit. The flavors of cherries, pomegranates, persimmons, cola and cedar are very rich and deep, showing earthy notes of mushrooms and minerals. Given the firm tannins, you might want to age this young wine for three or four years. This is a brand to watch.
