Plenty of ripe flavors here, ranging from black cherries and cocoa through coffee, sage and dill. The structure is simple, with easy tannins and supportive acids. Seems like a pizza sort of wine.

Cedary and toasty, with big, mouthfilling flavors of roasted fruit that pick up hints of pepper and dried spices. But we also found hints of nail polish and dry, woody tannins on the finish.

Richer and bigger in every way than Kahn’s regular Central Coast bottling. Brims with full-throttle flavors of blackberries and herbs dusted with white pepper, and the tannins are rich and fine. Loses a few points due to an astringent finish.

Marginally richer and finer than Kahn’s Santa Ynez Syrah, with knock-your-sox off flavors of cherries and blackberries that flood the mouth. The tannins are quite thick and melted. Feels plush and velvety through the finish.

Rather soft and candied, a ripely fruity wine with semi-sweet Lifesaver flavors of lemon and lime. Feels a bit heavy in the mouth, lacking acidity and zest.

Rustic and heavy, with berry-cherry flavors and some astringency through the finish. Tannins are pronounced and thick. Drinks like a country-style wine, although it has no flaws.

Shows more of a cool-climate influence than the regular Syrah with white pepper aromas and thick tannins. Has a rich melange of blackberry, plum, coffee and tobacco flavors that finish long and harmonious.

A very good Syrah, full-bodied and warming, but dry. It shows dark stone fruit and cocoa flavors with a rich earthiness, and is soft enough to drink now.

Very nutty on the nose, with chocolate and carob notes reminiscent of trail mix. Medium- to full-bodied blackberry fruit lies at the core, but the focus is elsewhere: leather, cocoa, dried spices, coffee and peanut were among the descriptors tossed around by our panel.
