Blueberries dominate the dense, sweet nose. Flavors are a bit sharp: plums, currants and wintergreen are identifiable. Very full-bodied, with oodles of black fruit, but ultimately a bit plain and simple.

An unusual, enjoyable Shiraz. A mint-and-chocolate peppermint-patty quality pervades the wine, nose to tail, but the quality is an attracive one. Feels steely and linear on the palate, as though oak contributes to the wine's flavor, but not to its texture. Red and black plums, and some toasted oak flavors, persist through the finish.

The Viognier contributes beautiful floral aromatics to this wine, and the Shiraz, plenty of black pepper. The palate surges wtih berries and cherries—taut, fresh and pure. Smooth and firm on the finish. Nicely done.

This is a broad, mouthfilling Chardonnay that gets a lot of things right. The aromas are citrusy and tropical, kept in check by hints of pith. The oak is nicely judged, with spice and nutty, cereal-like notes adding complexity to the bold fruit. A minor quibble is the warmth and slightly elevated alcohol on the finish. Drink now.

This starts off a bit tarry and rubbery at first, but soon settles down to reveal black cherry and cola aromas and flavors. It’s a nice, medium-bodied red, turning a little tart on the finish.

Tannic, crisp and borderline unfriendly when tasted on its own, this is a firmly structured, berry-and-earth-inflected dry red that should be paired with rare steaks or burgers in order for it to shine.

Some weedy, eucalyptus notes add a sour edge to what is otherwise a fine mix of berries and meats. The chewy mouthfeel is a treat, as is the dusty finish. Rare beef will help tame the wine’s tannins and enhance its texture.

This full-bodied effort goes down surprisingly easy. Aromas of shoe polish, black plums and a dash of black pepper presage flavors of blackberry, plum and brandied spice cake. Finishes with warm notes of chocolate and spice. —J.C.
