A rich, dry wine, soft and velvety in tannins. It feels satisfying all the way through. Not super-big in fruit, but nuanced, offering layers of blackberries, currants, dark chocolate, herbs, leather and pepper. One of the finer Syrahs to come out of the Sierra Foothills this year. Ready now.

Kendric’s best Pinot yet, from this magnificent vintage. Strikes a fine balance between lushness of raspberry fruit and a stony crispness that pulls back tantalizingly into dryness and minerality, then returns to spicy richness on the finish. It will be interesting to watch this wine evolve over the next 4–8 years.

This is a big, mouth-filling Pinot Noir, stuffed with candy and pie-filling flavors. Shows cherries, black raspberries, cola, granola, orange peel, cedar, smoke, vanilla and cinnamon spice flavors, brightened with crisp coastal acidity. Could develop for a few years.

Soft, simple and juicy, this high-altitude (1,400 feet) Syrah has a California-sweet ripeness. The flavors of cherries, berry tea, milk chocolate, anise and peppery spice are clean and forward.

This is a newish producer making Pinot in Marin, the county between San Francisco and Sonoma. The wine is dry, crisp, elegant and medium-bodied, showing cola, cherry liqueur and spicy vanilla flavors. It’s a promising Pinot whose next step is to build in additional layers of complexity.
