Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
In a lineup of 2005 Pinots, this was among the most Burgundian in the mushrooms, sweet kid leather, forest floor and mulch aromas, although it also offers scads of jammy ripe cherry and raspberry fruit. The vineyard is in the heart of the 246 corridor, between Melville and Babcock.

This 100% Clone 115 wine erupts with fresh, ripe kirsch, framboise and tangerine zest flavors, so pure and refined, and finished with vanilla-charred oak. Crisp acidity leads to a clean, bright finish. It’s a bit of a fruit bomb, lacking in subtlety but scoring high on the yummy scale.

Here’s a dense, intricately layered Pinot with an earthy spray of sage, dill and thyme to the cherries, plums, blackberries and coffee-cola fruit. The wine has the weight and texture almost of a heavier Rhône variety, like Grenache. But the silky mouthfeel is all Pinot Noir. Good now–2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fresh and immediately appealing for its silky texture and forward flavors of cherries, cotton candy, vanilla and sweet, smoky oak. But this is no mere taste treat. It’s a serious, layered Pinot Noir, whose vital balance will help it evolve over the next six years.

Instantly appeals for its fresh, vibrant mouthfeel and flavors of raspberries, cherries, Mandarin orange marmalade, anise, cloves and cinnamon. What a pretty wine this is, polished and silky and savory.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Young and slightly gawky now in adolescent immaturity, with jammy blackberry, violet and carob flavors, this tannic, single-vineyard Syrah isn’t ready yet. But it’s so classically proportioned, balanced and refined, it’s a natural for mid-term aging. Shold start to soften by late 2007 and develop for another six to eight years.

A decided improvement over the vegetal ’05, the winery’s ’06 Grenache offers a wealth of black cherry, bitter cherryskin, currant, anise, violet, clove and pepper flavors. The tannins are firmly present, but yielding. Good job despite the high alcohol.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is lusher, silkier and more immediately appealing than the winery’s ’04 bottling, but no less complex. It’s a Pinot to drink now for its cascades of jammy cherry, raspberry and mocha fruit, but is so classically balanced in firm tannins and crisp acidity that it should ride out the next six to eight years, gradually fading away.

The vineyard fairly routinely is source to powerful, high-alcohol Syrahs, and this is a great exemplar. Pours an opaque ruby black, staining the glass with glycerine streaks, and leading to a massive wine, with cherry, black pepper, cassis, plum liqueur, milk chocolate and spice flavors, coated with decadent, vanilla-infused oak. Offering endless tiers of flavor and mouthfeel, the wine changes with each sip. Impressive now and for the next eight years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of the riper, fruitier wines of the vintage, with strong flavors of black cherry pie, blackberry tart, blueberry jam and anise, with an intriguing, earthy note of wild mushrooms and balsam. Dry and interesting, and should develop well through 2013.
