Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not much going on in this dry, harsh wine. It’s thin in cherry fruit flavor, while very high alcohol gives an irritating burn.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Simple and soft, with flavors of sour cherry candy, cola, red currants and sandalwood. The texture is nice and silky, but there’s not a whole lot going on. Drink now.

Soft, simple and hot. Tastes like melted cherry pie filling, sprinkled with cocoa, anise and pepper, with a burning finish. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tart in acidity and a bit thin, with green, minty flavors that give a sting to the cherries, cola and sandalwood. Not going anywhere, so drink up.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little ungainly now, with its tightness, tannins and oak all at odds with each other. There’s plenty of primary cherry, black raspberry and red currant fruit, brightened with vibrant acidity for balance. This Pinot Noir should develop by the end of 2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Despite some tasty cherry, cola and sandalwood flavors, this Pinot Noir is too soft. It melts in the mouth, and the imbalance emphasizes the alcohol, which gives the impression of heat. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ripe and rather harsh, this Cab has simple flavors of blackberries, currants, plums, mocha and woodspice. The finish is peppery and hot.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Chard is okay for everyday purposes, with oak, peach and pear flavors. But there’s a minty sharpness that detracts. A disappointment, considering that it comes from some of the valley’s best vineyards.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Former Wild Horse proprietor Ken Volk is back with his own personal brand after selling the winery. He’s sourced his fruit from this very famous old vineyard. It’s a good start, a deep golden wine showing ripe apricot, pear and sweet smoky oak flavors.
