Dry and clean, but this Cabernet-based Bordeaux blend shows a surprising sharpness and hardness for a wine from this vintage, at this age. The black currant flavors are buried by tannic astringency. Doesn’t seem likely to age.

Rather tough and gritty now, this bone dry wine offers herb, tobacco and cedar flavors, with suggestions of cherries and currants. It’s the answer to folks who complain that California Cabernets are fruit and oak bombs. Could surprise with 5–7 years in the bottle.

Smells like cheap Port and drinks harsh and dry, with flavors of raisins and stewed black cherries. Drinkable, but just barely.

Simple and soft, a wine whose modest cherry and cedar flavors lack depth, structure and interest. It’s okay, but there’s very little going on, especially at this price.

Soft and somewhat simple in structure. Shows modest cherry, cola and spice flavors, enhanced with smoky sandalwood. Ready to drink now.

A bit soft and heavy in structure, with cherry, cola and sandalwood flavors. Pretty good, but at this price, it needs greater vibrancy and depth. Drink now.
