Aromas of smoke, cream and herbs atop a ripe pineapple foundation. In the mouth, pineapple prevails again along with apple, toast and butterscotch notes. It’s supple, and though quite fruit-driven, it’s not at all sweet. The wine shows complexity and finishes long and light on its feet. Top Value.

Opaque and full-scale, this plush wine has deep cassis and tobacco aromas. Yes, there’s an intense amount of cedar and vanilla oak, but it’s well married to the deep black-currant fruit. Finishes long and dense, with firm tannins and chocolate notes. Age for two or three years; should keep for a decade or more. Cellar Selection.

A creamy wine offering berry and black cherry fruit, offset by licorice and menthol accents. This mid-weight Cab has a soft palate of ripe fruit, licorice and vanilla. Finishes evenly with smooth, dry tannins and dark fruit.

This mid-weight Chardonnay offers some complexity, with spicy and leesy notes accenting the apple-pear fruit. A touch of pineapple on the nose and vanilla on the palate add further interest. The mouthfeel is even, though the wine shows a bit of alcoholic heat. It finishes with good length, showing butter and spice notes.

Toasty oak and tobacco notes frame black plums and cocoa in this nicely balanced wine. The solid black-cherry, berry and earth flavors are on target; the mouthfeel is smooth and fairly supple. Dry and softly tannic, the finish shows good length, more plum flavors and licorice-anise notes.

Vanilla, cocoa and tobacco highlight the berry fruit of this compact red. The mouthfeel is rich and not overly soft, the fruit ripe, but without the depth of the estate bottling. The finish is slightly hot, but marked by good length and tobacco and toast notes.

From southern Napa, this wine has good acids and is very dry, with citrus and peach flavors. There's an earthiness, a dried herbal quality that makes it fuller-bodied than most.

Lots of oak and ripe apple and peach fruit, with good acids in this dry, creamy wine. The finish is filled with cinnamon, ginger and other spices. Can’t quite overcome a certain simplicity and rusticity, though.
