This is a clean and fruity Shiraz—and one that fits the Australian success formula almost predictably. Jammy blackberry and cassis fruit is framed by touches of oak-derived vanilla and spice, tannins are soft and the mouthfeel supple. It’s well done, even if it lacks a certain degree of individuality.

Racy and loaded with apricot, melon, apple and corn aromas and flavors. It’s sweet and sticky on the palate, while the finish is ponderous.

Peaches and cream on the nose? And this is supposed to be Sauvignon Blanc, a wine known for its piquant pungency? Guess not, because it’s full of soft, flabby peach and papaya flavors rather than citrus and snap. Get it while it still has a pulse.

A little char and herbal lift accent the confected nose on this Central Valley wine. The palate is jammy sweet with raspberry and cherry flavors, while the finish shows a dose of Cabernet character but mostly just pleasant, innocuous sweetness.

Mildly grassy and dilute on the nose, with sweet, candied berry flavors and a sticky, woody finish. It’s fairly full in the mouth, but it lacks the precision, darkness and focus of a top-flight Malbec.
