The wild raspberry and cherry fruit is starting to drop out from this five-year-old wine, leaving behind alcohol and acidity. Turns astringent on the finish. Hard to see it improving with more age, but it’s interesting for a certain complex tension.

Tastes fruitier and sweeter than past vintages from this winery, with sugar candy flavors of raspberries and cherries, dusted with vanilla. Rich, but lacks dryness and nuance.

Very similar to the 2006, Kameron’s ’07 Bordeaux blend, which is based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is upfront in blackberry, cherry, cassis, oak and spice flavors. It’s quite tannic, with a puckery astringency that suggests needed time in the cellar. Better after 2014.

A very rich Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon, but quite tannic. You want to give it some time in the cellar. Dry and full-bodied, it shows ripe, deep flavors of blackberry jam, black currants, dark chocolate and anise, with smoky overtones from oak. Feels dramatic and impressive. Give it until 2012 to come around.

It’s not from Napa Valley, but it shows a classic California Cabernet structure that might surprise you in a lineup with Cabs from “over the hill.” Dry and elegant, it brims with black currant, licorice, smoke and cedar flavors, and finishes with the complex texture of a very high-class wine.

Classically structured, with finely-meshed tannins framing smooth flavors of cherries, currants, violets, cola, vanilla and sweet spices. This very nice wine shows how well Merlot can do if the winemaker understands its nature and treats it right.

Lush and dramatic. Shows intense flavors of black currants and cedar, wrapped into extremely fine tannins and liberally enhanced with sweet, smoky oak. Very good, but young and fresh. Best 2010–2013.
