Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ku Dé Ta is a “global brand” in that its backers identify regions they like and then buy and bottle wine from that region. This one from Casablanca has gooseberry, green melon, apple and talcum powder all on a delicate but healthy frame. Imported by Ku Dé Ta Wines.

Lime and grapefruit aromas are more or less clean, but the palate seems underdeveloped as it teeters toward sour. Not bad per se, but there isn’t much to offset the strong acidity, and thus it tastes tart and sheering in the long run.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A pungent, quasi sharp style with prickly nettle and citrus aromas. The palate is driving, angular and acidic, but the flavors of green pepper, tangerine, grapefruit, tarragon and lemongrass are clean and well cut. Very pungent but niceley done for this type of SB.

Beware of funky labeled Malbecs because many don’t have much to offer. Case in point, this candied, scratchy wine with wild, rampant fruit and not much else. Tastes like a jug wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Although the wine is not particularly Cabernet-esque with its pepper, leather and cherry tobacco flavors that could almost be Petite Sirah or Sangiovese, it’s a pretty good drink. Dry and robust, it will go well with grilled meats or Italian food.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Respectable red fruit aromas carry a slight pickled sharpness and the scent of a matchstick, while the palate is lactic and creamy, with strawberry, raspberry, plum and herbal notes. Plump and reasonably well balanced, with an herbal finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ku Dé Ta is one of these new “global” brands with wines from Argentina, Spain, Chile, etc. This Tempranillo is decidedly stemmy and burnt. The nose shows acrid accents and green notes, which are followed by generic fruit, green herb and carob flavors. Not the type of wine that will improve. 8,000 cases made.

To judge by the codes on the label, this Best Buy is from the same bottler who did Rudi Wiest’s 2007 Mosel River. This is slightly lighter in weight, with simple apple and citrus flavors tinged with petrol. Off-dry, but clean and fresh on the finish. A wine to drink now and over the next few months.
