Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows the ripe pineapple fruit, acidity, minerality and above all sweet, smoky oak that mark a rich California Chardonnay. But there’s something off. Hard to say exactly what, but it’s in the taste. Like a smattering of mold or shriveled grapes that’s off-putting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows lots of Central Coast class, with brisk acidity and pure, fruity flavors of raspberries, cherries, orange zest and cola. The mouthfeel is silky, the acidity crisp, the finish dry. Very nice for drinking now, and a good price for a Pinot Noir of this quality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very rich and voluptuous, with a mouthfeel of pure satin and velvet. Rich and extracted, too, offering a wealth of blackberries, currants, chocolate and pepper. A very tasty wine for drinking soon.

La Fenêtre Syrah - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Despite success with Syrah and Pinot Noir, this winery has had problems with their Bordeaux reds. This Cab shows why. It’s unripe, with vegetal aromas and flavors that offer little satisfaction.

La Fenêtre Cabernet Sauvignon - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells and tastes ungenerous, probably due to unripe grapes that give an earthy, vegetal taste to the wine. Not going anywhere, so drink up.

La Fenêtre Red Blend - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The winery continues to try to figure out how to grow Cabernet in this remote part of the county. Ripeness isn’t the problem. Structure is. The flavors are upfront in blackberries, cherries and currants, but complexity and dryness remain challenges.

Rich and oaky, with lavish flavors of vanilla custard, smoky meringue and créme brulée. The fruit consists of ripe pineapples and Meyer lemons.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not quite ripe, this wine shows an herbal, tobaccoey edge that is almost vegetal. You’ll find modest suggestions of cherries and currants.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Showing lemon zest and yellow apricot flavors, this bone-dry Chard has serious underpinnings of minerals. It’s reminiscent of a good French Chablis, and may require time in the cellar.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of words in the title of this Syrah, from a newly established negociant. The wine is dry and tannic, but it’s very rich and ripe in blackberry and cherry flavors that have a jam-like quality, and finish with the tastes of black pepper and anisette liqueur. Has just enough complexity to serve with fine foods.
