The Passepied is a pretty, chunky wine displaying bright raspberry flavors and a rich easygoing personality. Pleasant to drink, but with the potential to age gracefully for another five years. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

Browning slightly at the edge, and already fully mature, this shows some pretty aromatics of strawberry, flowers and wintergreen mint. Quite light on the palate, but the aromatic thrust gives it plenty of interest. While it will not improve, it is a nice example of a good Barolo that should be drunk over the next five years. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

Typical of this hot vintage, La Fiammenga is already quite mature. The fruit is on the plummy side, it has the added complexity of licorice and road tar. On the palate, it is soft and rich but it does need a touch of acid to liven it up. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

Made to a traditional formula, the Clemente shows some fruit, but also funky stale earth aromas. On the palate, the wine takes on the stale character of the nose, and the fruit disappears quickly. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

The La Fiammenga is a beautifully made wine; its aromas of dark fruit, almonds and violets give it a lushness that stops just short of jamminess. On the palate, it is rich, and quite meaty, but let down by a slightly short finish. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

A well-made wine from the relatively obscure subregion of Piedmont, Monferrato. A modernist wine, where the wine shows very ripe fruit flavors, coffee and a touch of earth, a soft but solid structure, and a medium finish. Imported by Sapori Italiani Inc.

This is a very compelling Barbera d’Asti Superiore that is characterized by ripe fruit notes and smoky tones of ham or bacon fat. You’ll get brambly notes of underbrush as well that give the wine a sharper, more defined personality and this impression is reinforced by the natural acidity.

An elegant and polished expression of Barbera from a vintage that seems to have yielded many overripe wines. That’s not the case here. The secret is the wine’s successful balance of fruit, acidity and overall extraction, which is neither too heavy or thin.
