Riserva gli Angeli is a beautiful Brunello with plump richness and long-lasting flavors of red fruit, exotic spice, leather and tobacco. Thanks to excellent growing conditions, this lucky vintage shows wonderfully rich texture in the mouth.

The land from which this wine comes was once owned by the Biondi-Santi family. It forms part of an 18-acre estate belonging to Sergio Rossi. It is a stunning wine, with a sense of fine poise combined with solid tannins and firm, ripe fruit. At the back of the palate is a lingering flavor ofviolets and sweet herbs. Drink from 2005; the wine should age well.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Vigna gli Angeli is a rich and muscular Brunello that is redolent of blackberries, spice, peppercorn, licorice, leather and prunes. Think big concentration and black fruit. Despite the intensity and massiveness of the nose, this wine is delicately fresh and persistent in the mouth thanks to its firm tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
La Gerla offers a spectacular Brunello that hits all the right marks in terms of intensity, beauty and staying power. This is an opulent and rich wine with plump blueberry flavors followed by chocolate fudge and sweet exotic spice. You can either cellar it or enjoy it within the next few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark in color, this Brunello has a rich brawny nose, good fruit and acidity. Evolving, it needs another three to four years to shed its still considerable tannins. Should drink well after 2003 and for a decade beyond.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Slight tobacco and pepper notes vie with solid red fruit on the nose. It tastes full, with proper acid-tannin balance. Finishes dry and woody. What’s here is nice, but it doesn’t have a penthouse level, so to speak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine left our panel deeply divided and tested our threshold for modern Brunello. One panelist loved the chocolate fudge, black cherry, fennel seed, bacon fat and toasted notes. To a second panelist, the wine was disjointed and over-oaked. Drink by 2015. Imported by Opici Import Company.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Sangiovese from a hot vintage definitely seems past its peak. It has a very sweet-smelling, cherry-driven nose with a touch of marmalade that is blasted by a sudden rush of oak wood.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dense and concentrated, this is a modern and flavorful Brunello that delivers vinous and fruity aromas such as cherry, plum and even apricot. Lush and meaty with espresso bean, mushroom and exotic spice. Scores sky high on the power meter. Imported by Opici Import Company.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and chunky, both in sight and smell. Nevertheless, it’s fairly nice on the palate, but it’s soft. The black plum, cherry and licorice flavors are warm although not overly precise. Finishes with a decent kick as well as balancing flavors of fresh tomato and cherry. Imported by Opici Import Company.
