A wonderful aged Burgundy from a great property; the nose is sweet and clear at the beginning, belying its age with a rich tapestry of aromas that range from burnt sugar and toffee to tobacco leaf and chocolate, earthen and spicy with green herb aromas laced with pepper, deep and complex nose; sweet and ripe in the mouth with elegant fruit and acidity; really shows its breeding; quite rich with mature fruit flavors of plums and ripe cherries; there is a hint of volatile acidity that mars the picture some, but extraordinary for its age. Deep, rich nose, quite earthen and spicy, layers of spiced fruit that are mostly black cherries but with a touch of prunes in the background; deep and rich in the mouth; these wines tend to be deep and powerful and this one is there; aged fruit detracts a bit and this wine should be viewed as on its way down from the apogee; still sound though with lots of black and red cherry flavors; underlying the fruit is a pleasant mélange of cinnamon, clove, and other exotic spices; a complex wine with layers of flavor.
