Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ron Lachini cleverly assigns his wines to a carefully assembled team of winemakers; this one belongs to Laurent Montalieu. It is the estate reserve, from low-yielding vines. It is a particular success in this much-maligned vintage. Intense and focused, it opens with pungent aromas of forest and clove, tastes of concentrated cranberry and pomegranate fruit, and powers through into a full-bodied, hefty, assertive finish. The tannins are substantial and the winemaking perfect.

Ripe, tropical flavors of pear, peach and banana mingle in this blend of five vineyards. It’s fleshy and ripe.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a classic, high-acid vintage. The strength is fruit, and it’s a mix of citrus and light pineapple; all stainless fermented and finished at moderate alcohol. Quite different in style from the ’06, but well-made.

A delicious mix of strawberries and raspberries, along with hard cherry candy. Persistent and nicely textured, the brightness of the wine is underlaid with Oregon herb.

You’ll taste bright cherry fruit with seams of cola, herb and vanilla. The alcohol is 14.6% and seems almost light in the context of the fruit. It finishes with lightly toasted cracker.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the heart and soul of Lachini; a sibling to the ‘S’ that shares similar fruit character, with a mix of strawberry, pomegranate, cherry and whiffs of smoke. Sharp and spicy, this is a nicely structured and focused effort that brings in nuances of gravel and earth.

Of all the Lachini wines, the Giselle shows the chunkiest cherry flavors, with herb and earth and some textural, leesy minerality. In this vintage, the top 12 barrels have been chosen, so this represents the winery’s reserve.

Rough, round and ravishing, this is a rock ‘n’ roll red that takes no prisoners. The Klipsun/Red Mountain tannins and power are there in abundance, but the edges have been smoothed, the balance is perfect, and the fruit is pure and expressive. This wine resonates out from a core of pure cherry/berry; it lingers and expands into a lush rainbow of strawberry and earth.

Lachini Vineyards Red Blend - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is pure Cabernet from Red Mountain’s Klipsun vineyard; there is nothing subtle or gentle about this wine. It’s a powerhouse, sharp and astringent, with edgy flavors of berry and granite. The rock/mineral component dominates the finish, which lingers and gently fades. Overall, this is a wine to cellar and to watch; it tastes like a high-altitude Malbec from a 7,000-foot Argentine vineyard.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A pretty pale salmon color introduces a wine that looks and smells like a Sancerre rosé. Delicate and yet fruity, it offers a cavalcade of fresh flavors, strawberries and cherries, almost frothy and tasting like the creamy center of a bon bon.
