Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a Pinot that delivers plenty of upfront cherry fruit to the palate, but maintains a dignified elegance and lightness of body. The fruit flavors are complexed by oak, while high acidity adds a clean minerality. Finishes with a real stamp of quality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite a different wine from Laetitia’s Colline bottling, although it’s not fair to say one’s better. This is chunkier, with berry and stone fruit flavors intrigued by a meaty, leathery note. It’s also more tannic and, for the moment, less accessible, although a tenderloin of beef will deal with that. Probably an ager. Drink now through 2008.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a masculine Pinot, deep in color and muscular, but elegant. Think Armani. The flavors veer toward dark fruits and berries, such as blackberries, spicy blue plums, coffee bean and even bitter dark chocolate, yet the wine possesses an airy, lilting quality, thanks to soft tannins and brisk acidity.

A beautiful Pinot of considerable power and subtlety. Shows ripe flavors of blackberries, blueberries and cocoa, with minerals and hard spices. There’s a firmness to the mouth feel but also a lusciousness, and the silky finish is polished.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft and heavy and very ripe, with jammy blackberry, cherry, raspberry, plum and cola flavors. New oak adds sweet, smoky barrel notes. Almost Rhône-like in weight, it should knit together and become more elegant in a year or two.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite an impressive wine, rich and full-bodied and ageable. Shows a touch of Burgundy in the grilled mushrooms and earthy tastes, but it’s all California in the ripe berries, cherries and cola. The texture is complex, with refined tannins, fine acidity and a touch of sweet, smoky cedar. Beautiful now, and should develop through 2013, at least.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The dominant feature of this single-clone Pinot Noir is complexity of flavor. It shows intense, multiple layers of cherries, raspberries, cola, currants, candied ginger, tangerine zest, spice and smoky sandalwood. The texture is soft and silky. Delicious now with a good steak, or ahi tuna tartare.

A buttery, toasty, mildly nutty wine that receives 100% malolactic fermentation. Flavors center on peaches spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pine, berry, and orange-blossom aromas announce this substantial offering from the former Maison Deutz. Big sour-cherry fruit, chocolate, oak and spice flavors, a full mouthfeel, and a very long, rich finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earthy, with good fruit elements on the nose. The wine has many commendable aspects: a good bead and complex flavor elements. But the earthy, mushroom quality hinted at in the nose sits too heavily. Perhaps it’s getting on in years, as it seemed more vibrant when tasted last year.
