Elegant, light and easy to drink, this offers a nose of fresh citrus and clean, friendly flavors of lemon and spice on the palate. Uncomplicated and fun, it’s a great summer wine that will pair perfectly with grilled fish or Asian cuisine.

Greek producers have a wealth of indigenous grapes that have adapted to the hot Mediterranean climate. Roditis, grown in the Peloponnese for centuries, retains acidity throughout the hot summer to make a refreshing wine that is great with food. This example, from a quality-minded Greek importer with temperature-controlled shipping, marries aromas of juicy peach with flavors of lemon, mineral, white stone fruits and a dash of mint, all in an acidic framework that makes this perfect for food. Finishes crisply, with a touch of oak spice.

Sometimes translated as “St. George” for the U.S. market, the Agiorgitiko grape can be very grapy when young, as this wine shows. Fine tannins and a mineral streak offer attractive elements, but sweaty notes mar the otherwise fine mixed berry and cola flavors.

Dark cherry, plum and clove lead on this enticing red from the Peloponnese. On the palate, a blend of dark chocolate, cherry and vanilla spice offers complexity and assertive flavor. Smooth but ageable, the wine’s peppery spice finish gives it an extra kick.
