Here’s a delicious Zinfandel to drink now. It’s very rich in wild raspberry and cherry fruit, sweet tobacco, bacon and spice flavors, wrapped into thick but gentle tannins. Alcohol is high, but in balance.

So dramatically deep in flavor, it immediately impresses for the depth of blackberries, cassis and minerals, enriched with sweet, smoky oak. The tannins are fierce now, and the wine shows a precocious immaturity that makes it somewhat coarse. But it clearly has the structure to age well. Should glide through the next dozen years with ease. Production was 875 cases.

Quite earthy in the nose. But on the palate, it’s smooth and lush, filled with chocolate, coffee, plum, black cherry, cola and toast flavors. It’s incredibly velvety, seductive and fun to drink.

Dazzles now for its richness. Shows those classic Howell Mountain tannins, but they’ve been so tamed and refined, you can drink it now. The flavors are spectacular, over the top; pure Cirque du Soleil spectacle of blackberry, currant and chocolate acrobatics.

This high-octane wine will please lovers of big, powerful Zinfandel. It’s a little hot from high alcohol, but so lush, you hardly notice. Offers waves of currants, anise and pepper that go on and on, and the finish is dry.
