Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Grassy and herbal, but with a solid underpinning of grapefruit to tie things together. Picks up hints of cilantro and peach while remaining light and fresh. Measures a bit light on the concentration meter, but it’s pretty nonetheless.

Lawson’s Gewürztraminer is always near the top of its class, and the 2009 offers expressive scents of lychee and ginger married to a powerful, round, nearly dry palate. Finishes long and spicy. Drink it over the next couple of years for its exuberance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rather honeyed and peachy, with lychee and some extremely ripe grapefruit scents that presage broad, mouthfilling flavors of lychee, stone fruits and citrus. Shows good weight and concentration on the palate and a long, spicy finish. Even the price is right. What’s not to like? Imported by Via Pacifica Imports.

Very good Pinot at a very good price. It’s actually somewhat reminiscent of some Russian River Valley examples, with ample cherry and cola flavors amplified by hints of birch root and wintergreen. Caramel creeps in on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Wonderfully ripe and tropical, bursting with stone fruits as well, with just a hint of capsicum to remind you it’s Sauvignon Blanc. Round-bodied and concentrated, yet fresh and clean. Imported by Via Pacifica Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells just right, with bits of passion fruit and grassy notes, and also riper hints of apricot. But it just delivers on the palate, where it seems a bit light and hollow before finishing tart and shrill. A wine of unfulfilled promise. Imported by Via Pacifica Imports.

Wow. This is a steal, and a dead-ringer for a top Alsace Gewürztraminer. Effusive scents of lychees and rose petals are textbook Gewürz; the weight and viscosity on the palate provide heft and the flavors linger delicately on the finish, without any bitterness at all.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A disappointing effort from a usually reliable source of Marlborough Gewürztraminer, the 2008 offers ample pineapple and lychee fruit, but lacks a bit of texture and length, finishing with only modest spice.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Subtle toast and peach notes are wrapped around a core of apple and pear fruit. There’s a certain tension created by the interplay of weighty fruit and crisp acidity. Lingers delicately on the finish, blending hints of butter, yellow plum and pineapple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Yet another well-priced offering from Marlborough, Lawson’s Pinot is a plump, fruity wine framed by ample oak. Toasty and cedary on the nose, it finishes with some dry wood tannins. Give it another year to smooth out. Imported by Via Pacifica Imports.
