This pretty ripasso opens with direct aromas of Indian spice, dried apple skin, cinnamon and dark chocolate at the back. The fruit notes are mature and intense and recall currant berry and blackberry pie. The wine offers a blast of power in the mouth and really gives you good a sense of the territory. There’s an awkward note of alcohol here backed by toasted chestnut or hazelnut. After a few minutes in the glass however, the wine regains its confidence in the form of cured meat and ripe blackberry aromas.

Here’s a compact, focused Amarone that shows detailed aromas of wild berry, mesquite, bramble, cola and Spanish cedar. It’s lean in terms of extraction and intensity, making this wine a good pairing partner to white meat or honey-roasted ham.

Giordano Venturini delivers a fantastic wine, and although it is beginning to show its age, it successfully embodies all the unique qualities of the traditional Amarone school of winemaking. The nose is penetrating and intensely aromatic of apple-cherry, dusty licorice, almond amaretto and a splattering of black asphalt. This is an ethereal expression with fine, textured tannins and pristine elegance on the close.

Aged in traditional oak casks, this bright Amarone shows great balance between its natural spice and ripe fruit components. It feels compact and streamlined with loads of berry fruit on the long close.

This is an older vintage of ripasso and it shows in the wine’s garnet color and its evolved aromas of resin, licorice, candied cherry and cola. In the mouth, it is linear and smooth with textured, slightly gritty tannins. Imported by Vinarium Inc.
