Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From the Sottocastello, “under the castle” cru, comes this silky, polished Barolo. The bouquet here is redolent of exotic spice and church incense and there’s plenty of currant berry and forest berry to give the wine a vibrant, youthful personality. But elegance is also present and so are firm tannins that suggest longevity.

A pale, delicate wine, marked by herbal and citrus aromas and ripe peach and pear. Flavors are light, suggesting dried herbs, nuts and spice; what fruit there is tends toward green apple. Finishes dry and crisp. A simple, everyday style.

Crisp, fruity and light, with cherries and lots of herbal notes (thyme, cilantro) on the engaging nose. Tart berry flavors, dusty tannins and brisk acidity mark the palate and finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Offers an engaging nose of cherry, basil and cinnamon. Good fruit, with a lighter flavor range: plums, herbs, even a citrus note. Plump but tangy on the palate, with zingy acidity. Sour cherry and chocolate in the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Already brick at the rim, this wine smells mature, yielding scents of cedar, leather and hints of raisins and figs. Flavors are sweet and caramelized; the tannins supple. Drink now–2008.

This on-target wine shows why Dolcetto is the everyday red of choice in Piedmont. Vibrant cherry-chocolate aromas and a velvety, balanced palate are complemented by a long black-pepper finish. It’s ready to drink tonight.
