Nicely balanced from nose to finish, this medium weight Cabernet is more French than New World in style, with tart berry and tobacco elements prevailing. Very smooth on the palate, it finishes with fine tannins and a lingering tobacco note.

This reserve Cabernet from Stellensbosch displays aromas of oak spice and currant and its berry flavors are subtle and elegant. Could use a touch more tannic backbone and complexity of flavor, but it has a gentle touch that will please people who favor Old World wines over younger, more aggressive styles.

A soft plum, berry and pepper nose leads this elegant wine from Le Riche. On the palate, restrained but expressive layers of spice, tobacco and berry balanced by good acidity offer character and ageability. A very pretty wine for a good price.

I actually had the 2001 Le Riche RESERVE. color: deep browny purple. nose: Prunes, molassas, dark, cooked cherries. palate: yum... leather! lots of earth (but no barnyard), grilled shitake mushrooms, a little blackberry jam note but mostly black cherries and leather. Nice acidity.

Quite a powerful nose, very reminiscent of a Graves; lots of earth and gravel tones mix with ripe black fruit, chocolate and tobacco leaf mix with tar and licorice, hint of green olives and herbs; first taste is very rich and ripe, smooth and with the ripeness and density of a Pomerol; then more earthen and green herb flavors emerge, with a nice presence of acidity; nothing is out of balance; big powerful tannins that still taste quite green; probably a lot of new oak in this wine; long finish, powerful, but perhaps not as elegant or as complex as the first nose suggests; interesting what would happen with a few more years of bottle age as there seems to be enough fruit to battle the tannins, and perhaps produce more complexity and softness with time.
