Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little too soft in acids, and gooey in cassis and oak flavors, but this wine has good, rich tannins and a chocolaty taste on the finish.

For six bucks you get a dry, rich, creamy Chardonnay with nice flavors of pineapples, pears, apples and smoky vanilla. This is a great price for a wine of this polished appeal.

Harsh in tannins, low in fruit, with a rough mouthfeel, this is a good example of a rural wine in need of improvement.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not bad for an everyday Chard at this price. You’ll be surprised by how much real varietal character there is, from the tangerine and apple flavors to the creamy, smoky texture to the spicy, clean finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Don’t be misled by the price, this is a good value. Ripe and rich, with pronounced berry flavors, dry and supple. Good tannins and a hit of acidity make it clean and refreshing. It’s not complex or ageable, but a nice mouthful at a super-value price.

Shows good varietal character, with black currant flavors, dry tannins and full body. Feels rough around the edges, but it’s not a bad glass of wine. Best Buy. —S.H.

Sometimes all you need is an inexpensive red like this one. This Lodi Syrah erupts in white pepper aromas and is tartly crisp in cherry and blackberry flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There are some very unripe grapes here, to judge from the wintergreen and chlorophyll flavors. The wine is dry and tart on the finish.

So what do you get for the price? A nice little country wine, dry and balanced, with upfront cherry-pie filling and cinnamon spice flavors, and even a touch of smoky oak. Good, and easy to find, with 80,000 cases produced.

Tastes harsh and minty, like toothpaste, with some fruit flavors of cherries and blackberries. If you take the price into account, it’s not bad.
