Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and smoky aromas, lots of herbs and field grasses, very perfumed and aromatic on the nose with a powerful and complex nose; sweet, rich and spicy in the mouth, lots of concentration and elegance, slightly roasted with a touch of “cookie dough” flavors; quite dense and opulent, fat; very elegant, silky finish; another great example from an underrated vintage. (19/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
The first nose is very minerally and with aromas of wet slate, but that changes in the glass to reveal layers of sweet fruit in a rich, smoky environment laced with spices; quite sweet and ripe in the mouth with rich lemon-influenced flavors; very smooth and polished; the finish changes to a more earthen set of flavors with shale and slate creeping into the body of the fruit, revealing the influence of the soil in this wine; long finish, quite superb. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet, perfumed and honeyed nose, lots of minerals and aromas of slate and shale; sweet and round in the mouth, big, balanced citric flavors; still quite vigorous and concentrated with a good focus in the mouth; the finish is beginning to show signs of drying out, but this is still a wonderful wine. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Strange nose, defined by green, grassy aromas, pine sap and a touch of medicinal smells; green and unfinished in the mouth, spicy but lacking concentration or coherence; attenuated; this has to have been a bad bottle. (NR)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
First nose is filled with strong aromas of petroleum, but also rich and ripe fruit, smoke and green herbs; sweet and citric at the same time on the palate; surprisingly light, bordering on dilute; big core of acidity as these wines tend to have; long lemony finish that has good flavors but seems a bit thin and stretched out in the mouth. (17/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Wonderfully aromatic with lemon peel and limes on the nose, mixed into a smoky haze, and laced with lots of mineral highlights; light-styled wine that at first is a little disappointing in the mouth, but then gains some fat and takes on a wonderful smoothness and elegance; evolves and finishes with lots of lemon and lime flavors and real citrus punch at the end. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
This wine is incredible; served at Ron Pohl’s birthday dinner at March, the wine opened with a bang presenting a showy nose that has power, depth and elegance, with sweet and rich aromas of floral and perfumed white fruits, sweet and rich with a hint of truffles and minerals; sweet and round in the mouth but with almost transcendent poise; strong lemon flavors mix with ripe sweet fruit, all in a smooth and silky presentation; full and deep finish to complete a perfect package. (20/20)

Complex and powerful nose, sweet, rich and smoky with aromas of green herbs, bacon, capers, white pepper, quite aromatic; sweet and citric on the palate with big flavors; spicy and lemony; touch of smokiness in the flavors; long smooth finish with very balanced and elegant flavors; citric and dry at the finish, marvelous. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Wonderful seductive nose of sweet spices and honeysuckle, ripe and rich fruits laced with honey, “cookie dough”, lemon peel and oaky vanilla scents round out the picture; filled with citrus fruit flavors in the mouth, lots of lemons and lemon peel; not as complex as I would have expected; does have great focus though; mature now and in need of drinking, the wine has a long finish with well-structured fruit flavors. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Smoky nose with lots of sweet, exotic aromas, spicy and exotic with ripe fruit scents; not the best effort for this property but a good wine overall; light acidity and a bit hard in the mouth, but has good flavors, sweet lemons and spices; pretty well focused, and as it sits in the glass, more crisp lemony acidity emerges to give the wine better grip at the finish; a nice long finish with strong smoky touches and subtle nuances of lemon flavors. (17.5/20)
