While ‘claret’ is an alternative term for Bordeaux, this wine is based largely on the hardy American variety Norton. Some blackberry flavor manages to peek through the heavy layers of oak which help round out the tart palate. Short-to-medium finish of char and crushed berries. Drink up.

Syrupy and sugary with notes of cherries, plums and strawberry soda, the Riverboat Smooth Sweet Red is an unpretentious, simple wine with a bright, cherry cough syrup finish.

If simple, sweet and pretty is what you’re looking for, you may find Riverboat White’s Smooth Sweet White a perfect match. Perfumed on the nose with a spray of white florals and tropical fruit, it’s unabashedly syrupy with loads of confectionery sugar and lemon drops on the palate.
