From 70-year-old vines, a majority of which (60%) are Syrah (the rest Grenache). Blueberries speak of Syrah, while the creamy mouthfeel and supple tannins speak of complete ripeness. Ends with some peppery spice, enough to impart additional interest and complexity. A nice, easy-to-drink Rhône red.

With a fading, rather light color, it’s hard to believe that this is only a few years old. In the nose, there’s a slight burnt character, one of matchsticks and red pepper flakes. The palate, like the color, seems mature; it’s soft and round, with a mix of oak and berry fruit. This wine is fine, if a little weak, but the real fault is that it has no signature feature. It’s decent but just there.

This is yet another very good Southern Rhône red from this co-operative winery. The nose is full of smoke, rubber, cured meats and mushroom, and the grabby, tannic-rich palate is packed with plum fruit and cinnamon spice. On the finish, it’s quite easy and wholesome, and the power seems to build late in the game as opposed to at the start.

Not quite on a par with Les Ribières, but darn good nonetheless. It’s jammy and fruity, with purity throughout. This is 70% Syrah, and it’s focused and powerful, but still graceful and pleasant. The finish is properly tannic and slightly buttery. And the body is just right as it spreads across your palate as you drink it down.

A co-op wine from the Southern Rhône need not be run of the mill, as exemplified to the max by this beautiful blend that starts off with dusty, exotic aromas of cherry candy, mint, pepper and exotic Asian spices. The palate is full of strawberry jam and tree bark, while the finish is soft but structured, with a toasty, warming quality. Lush, pretty and yummy. Best Buy.

The 2003 Les Monticauts—a 100% Syrah cuvée—boasts a deep, healthy purple color and scents reminiscent of stone fruits and blueberries. Add in flavors of coffee and roasted meat as well as a supple, creamy texture and it’s a winner. Fairly large-scaled, but surprisingly tight. This could use another 1–2 years before being ready for primetime.

This Grenache-dominated (70%) blend isn't as impressive as its brother Les Monticauts in 2003. The color is already showing some fading, and the fruit is dried, not fresh, featuring dried cherries, prunes and dark chocolate. A bit rough in texture too, with rustic tannins on the finish. Drink now.

This blend is 50-50 Grenache and Syrah, boasting a complex bouquet that encompasses scents of leather, prune and meat, all of which make it a dark and stewy wine. Still, it has a nicely supple—verging on creamy—texture and some chewy tannins on the finish that give it welcome grip.

This is 50% Grenache, with the balance a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan from vines averaging 40 years of age. The result showcases cherry and plum aromas and a velvety, creamy texture. Peppery spice comes in on the finish, completing the package. Just lacks a little depth or it would have scored higher.
