Dark fruit dominates the wine. A ripe, dark and brooding texture gives this wine a fine sense of power. But it is also full of upfront fruit that powers through the sweet tannins, finishing with a touch of acidity. —R.V.

New wood dominates the nose of this wine; which offers ripe vanilla aromas and modern fruit. Flavors of dried fruit, toasty tannins and dryness at the end. A rich wine, dominated by the wood at this stage, but it should soften and ripen over the next 2–3 years. —R.V.

The overall impression is of ripe, creamy fruit, with aromas of Granny Smith apples. On the palate, there are flavors of spicy wood, crisp acidity and layers of apples and cream. A classic “apple pie” Chardonnay, delicious, but not heavy. —R.V.

Soft wine, with ripe tannins, dry fruit at the end, and flavors of southern herbs and wild fruits. A rich wine, with a streak of power under the sophisticated exterior. At this stage, the southern flavors and modern sophistication clash. This could come around in 2–3 years, although it is hard to predict with confidence. —R.V.

Very soft, very clean, a little neutral, this wine has apricot and green plum flavors, touches of toast. It is fresh, rounded and soft, neatly finished with acidity and a fruit skin texture.

Rather subtle and leaning toward spice more than fruitiness. The nose features spiced cherries and wood notes, while the raspberry and cherry fruit on the palate is soft, tasty, reserved and supported by dry, fine-grained tannins. Quite a tasty lightweight red and easy to drink.

Numbered bottles, embossed grapes on the label and the inscription in homage to Robert Skalli’s father, Francis, all give this wine an instantly luxurious feel. The nose is dominated by smooth, polished new wood. Aromas of smooth, ripe fruit and sophisticated wood flavors. Full-bodied, ripe wine, with upfront, modern fruit flavors. —R.V.
